Herman Lucius Davis
February 21, 1925 ~ February 23, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years OldShare Tribute:
Herman Lucius Davis died peacefully on February 23, 2017, at the age of 92. He was a country boy, a World War II veteran, a professional engineer, a Christian, and above all, a family man, and he will be missed and remembered with much love.
He was born northeast Louisiana on February 21, 1925, to Lucius and Annie Mae Davis, and lived in Oak Grove, La., until he left for college at the age of 16. His time at Louisiana State University was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, and he spent several years serving his country in Europe. After returning to the States at the end of the war, he finished school at LSU and received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. His career led him to Texas, and he eventually settled in Baytown, working for most of his professional life for Atlantic Richfield Co. He received his certification as a Professional Engineer in October 1958 and obtained his master’s degree in environmental management from the University of Houston in 1968.
Herman loved people, and people loved him. He was always fascinated not only by how things worked, but why, and he enjoyed nothing more than coming up with a theory and an experiment to figure out some practical or quirky aspect of daily life. If he knew you, he knew your interests, and he would cut clippings from magazines or newspapers to pass along the next time he saw you. He loved dogs, especially pit bulls, and the ones he raised were always as sweet, smart, and gentle as he was.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn Davis. He is survived by four children: Peggy Crawley (Richard), Steven Davis, Michael Davis (Tatiana), and Ann Fickel (Michael) and five stepchildren: Deborah White (Glenn), Michael Burge (Eva), Cyndi Jeansonne (Kevin), Phyllis Frank (Tony) and Sharon Damoff (Tony); grandchildren Richard (Jr.), Russell, Randall and Ryan Crawley; Linda Davis Smith; John Michael, Dena and Darbi Davis; Meredith and Dana Fickel; Katrina Banaszewski and Michael Glenn White; Sabrina Ruiz and Brook and Britt Burge; Christopher and Eric Jeansonne; and Danielle Frank. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; his brother, John Davis (Mary); and his first wife and mother of his children, Lucile Davis.
