Tribute

Dennis Leado Clements, 60, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020. He was born on a snowy night, March 9, 1960 in Dexter, Missouri to Leado Clements and Girtha Chism Clements. When he was just nine months old, his family moved to Houston, Texas. His big sister, Sandra, was 11 years old when Dennis was born. Because their mom and dad both worked, Dennis, became Sandra’s little baby and she was his “mama”.

Music was always in his family and was introduced by his dad. When he was 18, he began playing in a band with his two brothers, James and Aaron. They played country and western music, and old rock and roll. In Dennis’ musical career, he played bass guitar and sang many beautiful songs, graduating later to gospel music. He faithfully played in his church’s praise band for 5 years with his son playing drums from age 13 to 18.

Dennis has always been surrounded by a big, beautiful, loving family, who would gather together for holidays and special occasions where the brothers would entertain everyone with their music.

Dennis loved the band “Kiss”, maybe because they dressed up in costumes. Dennis loved to dress up. He and his best buddies in high school dressed up as the band, beginning with the makeup all the way down to the platform shoes. They did a great job making their costumes from scratch and really looked like the band. Dennis was a homebody, enjoying the comfort of his home over traveling but he did see Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Tennessee.

Dennis loved to draw and paint. One Christmas, everyone in the family got a framed painting from Dennis as our gift. Every special occasion was deemed a trip to Red Lobster where he would order The Ultimate Fest.

Dennis really enjoyed entering his cakes at the men’s church bake offs. Not so much for the baking part but he loved decorating the cakes. His artist’s talents came out when he was decorating something or making costumes.

Dennis would have left us 18 years ago because of a bad liver. He received the gift of life from a sweet family who donated their loved ones liver to Dennis. It will be 18 years June 13th. He received the biggest, most precious gift of life when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior about 25 years ago at Community Baptist Church during an Awana Family Night.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his son, Joshua Lee Clements; parents, Leado and Girtha Clements; sister, Rhonda; brother, Aaron, and niece, Stephanie.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara Shannon Clements; daughter, Samantha Kimmey and husband, Nicholas; granddaughters, Penelope and Rosalyn Kimmey; brother, James Clements and wife Barbara; sister, Sandra Bynum and husband Delbert; brother, Allen Clements; brother in spirit, R.D. Phillip and wife Norma; nephews, Chris Clements, Darrin Bynum, Matthew Clements, and Daniel Clements; nieces, Wendy Hoppins, Charity Vajdak, and Alicia Clements; and a host of extended family and friends.
